Ship History
Built by Mort's Dock & Engineering Co in Sydney. Laid down August 19, 1940 as Bathurst-class corvette. Launched December 21, 1940. Comissioned June 14, 1941 as HMAS Lithgow (J206) in honor of Lithgow, New South Wales.

Wartime History
On January 21, 1942 Lithgow with USS Edsall DD-219, HMAS Katoomba and HMAS Deloraine, sank Japanese submarine I-124 off Darwin, the first enemy submarine sunk in Australian waters, on January 20, 1942.

During May 1943, Lithgow was one of several ships to search for survivors after the torpedoing of AHS Centaur.

During 1945, operated off Bougainville under the command of Captain Fowler.

On August 20, 1945 off Kahili (Buin) on southern Bougainville, a Japanese Daihatsu landing barge transporting a Japanese Army envoy for Lt. General Kanda, commander of the 17 Army Group was escorted by ML 818 to HMAS Lithgow where the Japanese envoys were embarked and transported to Empress Augusta Bay where they disembarks at Torokina for a meeting at headquarters 2 Corps to discuss the surrender of the Japanese forces on southern Bougainville.

Postwar
On June 8, 1948 decommissioned. On August 8, 1956 sold for scrap to Hong Kong Delta Shipping Company and broken up for scrap.

Awards
During World War II service, the ship earned three battle honors for her wartime service: "Darwin 1942", "Pacific 1941-45", and "New Guinea 1942-44".

Memorials
Lithgow is recognized on a memorial plaque In memory of those who served HMA Ships [location unknown] dedicated by the RAN Corvette Associations of Australia in recognition of each of the 56 Australian built Second World War RAN corvettes.
