Sinking History
On January 31, 1944 destroyer USS Harrison supporting cruiser USS San Francisco (CA-38) engaged in a shore bombardment of Gugegue Island. The U.S. Navy vessels
spotted a Japanese tanker steaming north. USS Harrison fired 153
rounds of 5" shells at the target, leaving the ship burning
and sinking, believed to be this vessel.
Shipwreck
Sunk off Bigel Island. Although not confirmed, it is believed the
vessel is either 541 ton net tender Katsura Maru or 723 ton Kotobuki
Maru No. 3 both of which were sunk on that day.
