Wartime History
Unidentified Japanese shipwreck sunk into Thilenius Harbor (Gasmata Harbor) off Gasmata.
Shipwreck
Rod Pearce recalls a 1982 dive:
"Very good condition, stern motor, bomb hole on the stern. A lot of silt on the wreck."
Mark Reichman dived in June 2008 :
"I went back down on this ship but the pictures are real blurry as the water was dusty. The steel sides of the ship are starting to peel off, I was too afraid to go close to it on the sides. The top deck is still good but the two times I've been down on it, its been too dark to go into the cargo holds and too dusty to use a torch to see. Actually, a pretty spooky dive cause of the limited visibility. One couple i took to see it said visibility was three feet. Last time I was there was ten feet. Fish would come out of nowhere and really give you a heart attack."
