Sinking History
On February 16, 1944 Hoki Maru was anchored in Truk Lagoon. During "Operation Hailstone" attacked by U.S. Navy (USN) carrier aircraft and heavily damaged. Overnight during the early hours of February 17, 1944 sank into Truk Lagoon.
Shipwreck
Discovered in 1973, the shipwreck was not immediatly identified. Locally known as "The Bulldozer Ship" because of the cargo of bulldozers aboard. There are bulldozers, machinery and
remains of trucks in the holds. The forecastle is the deepest part of
the wreck at 170'. Gasoline and other caustic substances still seeps
to the surface.
