Ship History The Ikuta Maru served in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as a gunboat. Sinking History On January 12, 1944 sunk in the Southern Atoll at Kwajalien Atoll. Shipwreck During 1966, the Ikuta Maru was discovered on her port side at a depth of 180'. The shipwreck includes a large gun platform and plust two more amidship with 12.7cm guns with piles of shells on the seabed near the bow. A machine gun is on the bottom opposite the boat deck. The No. 1 hold has a large water tank. Others have pipes coal and saki bottles. Stern is heavily damaged. Plaques of brass, hundreds of saki bottles lanterns, china and the telegraph have been recovered from the wreck. Contribute
