Sinking History
Damaged on December 4, 1943 in the Southern Atoll of Kawajalein Atoll by carrier aircraft from USS Yorktown. Suffered one or more 1,000 or 2,000 lbs. bomb hits and near misses. On February 15, 1943. sunk by USS Pickerel SS-177.

Shipwreck
The shipwreck of the Tateyama Maru lies on her starboard side and is one of the most popular dives at Kawajalein.

There is an empty gun platform on the stern, the rear hold has artillery shells banded together in clusters. Some have spilled out into the sea floor. Another empty gun mount is on the bow. The engine room can be entered through open hatch covers. There is a skeleton on the grating floor. The No. 1 hold contains metal tanks, likely for water storage. The No.2 hold is full of beer bottles.
