Ship History Built by built by N.V. Machinefabriek & Scheepswerf van P. Smit Jr. of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Launched in 1939 as MS Bantam owned by Koninklijke Rotterdamsche Lloyd and provided passenger and cago service in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia). Wartime History During World War II, MS Bantam was commandeered by the United States and the United Kingdom as a transport and was a part of convoys. During April 1944 until April 1945, frequently a part of convoys between New York across the Atlantic Ocean to the United Kingdom. Postwar In 1946, returned to Koninklijke Rotterdamsche Lloyd and used for cargo and passenger service in the Dutch East Indies. In 1964, sold to Pacific Pearl Navigation Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong and renamed "Pacific Pearl". In 1969 sold to Marmando CompaƱia Naviera S.A. and registered in Panama and renamed Mill Star (sometimes listed as Millstar). In 1971, sold for scrap and broken up in China. References Note, another Dutch vessel with the same name SS Bantam (1930) operated in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), Australia and New Guinea during the prewar and wartime era. Contribute
