Crew Cpl Harry Turner, RAAF 11854 (MIA / KIA) Crew AC1 James Townsend Thorpe Geappen, RAAF 31289 (MIA / KIA) Crew AC1 John Francis Donegan, RAAF 41879 (survived) Crew Sig Frederick Edward Newman, AIF WX29017 (MIA / KIA August 30, 1942) Crew Pte N G Farrar, AIF WX6486 (survived) Sunk August 29, 1942 at 11:20pm Ship History Built as an O8 Type Crash Boat for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Designated Crash Launch O8-5. Wartime History On August 29, 1942 this vessel was patrolling Milne Bay when attacked by a Japanese ship and sunk at 11:20pm between Waga Waga and Mullins Harbor. Fates of the Crew Cpl Turner and AC1 Geappen were killed in the attack or sinking. Sig Newman died the following day. AC1 Donegan and Pte Farrar survived this incident and returned to duty. Later, Pte Farrar was listed as being "later accidentally killed", though the above details do not show on either the WWII Nominal Roll or Commonwealth War Graves Commission database. Memorials Turner and Geappen were officially declared dead August 29, 1942. Newman was officially declared dead on August 30, 1942. All three are commemorated at Bomana War Cemetery on the Port Moresby Memorial.
