Ship History Built by J.A. Jones Construction, Panama City, Florida. Ordered by the U.S. Maritime Commission (MC). Laid down October 18, 1944 as a Maritime Commission Emergency Cargo Ship (EC2-S-C1) Liberty Ship with MC hull number 2330. Launched November 21, 1944 as SS Ransom A. Moore named for American Ransom A. Moore (1826–1913) sponsored by sponsored by Mrs. Emmett Assenheimer. On November 30, 1944 allocated to J. H. Winchester & Company under a GAA contract for the U.S. government. Wartime History On March 22, 1945 at 11:40pm while anchored in Lingayen Gulf, a Japanese air raid commenced and was hit friendly fire from another ship and was hit in the rigging and no. 2 topping lift causing slight damage without casualties to the crew. Postwar On June 7, 1946 allocated to Alcoa S Co., Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland under Int. BB. On September 6, 1946 at Port of Spain, Trinidad. On September 18, 1948 allocated to S. Atlantic SS Line under GAA contract. On October 1, 1948 placed in the National Defense Reserve Fleet in Beaumont, Texas. On March 15, 1970 sold for scrap to Luria Bros. and Co., Inc., for $41,280. On June 15, 1970 withdrawn from the Reserve Fleet. Fate On June 15, 1970 withdrawn from the Reserve Fleet for delivery to Luria Bros. and Co.. Afterwards, broken up for scrap.
