Ship History
Built by New York Naval Shipyard, Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, NY. Laid down October 27, 1937. Launched June 13, 1940. Launched June 13, 1940 sponsored by Miss Isabel Hoey, daughter of Clyde R. Hoey, Governor of North Carolina. Commissioned April 9, 1941 with Captain Olaf M. Hustvedt in command.
