While screening the landings at Cape Gloucester, attacked by a D3A2 Val dive bomber that scored two bomb hits on the destoyer at 2:42pm. During the bombing and sinking, a total of 108 crew members were Missing In Action (MIA) / Killed In Action (KIA).
