USN October 11, 1941
Ship History
Built by Pusey & Jones Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware. Laid down as a yacht. Launched 1928 as Savarona owned by Mrs. Thomas S. Cadwallader of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During 1929, sold to Colonel William Boyce Thompson purchased the yacht and renamed the vessel Alder. On December 6, 1940 donated by Alder's daughter to the U.S. Navy (USN) in New York. Converted into a gunboat by Fletcher Division Shipyard of Bethlehem Shipbuilding Company in Hoboken, New Jersey. On May 26, 1941 commissioned as USS Jamestown (PG-55) named for Jamestown, Virginia.

On June 1, 1941 departs New York for Annapolis and used by the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) for several midshipmen training sessions. Later, returns to New York for fitting out. On October 11, 1941 photographed with several PT Boats including PT-37. Next, departs for Melville, Rhode Island to help establish the Motor Torpedo Boat Training Center and serve as a tender and training ship for Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 4 (MTBS 4).

Wartime History
During June 1942 departs Melville and returns to New York for new equipment. On August 1, 1942 departs via the Panama Canal via Pearl Harbor then to the South Pacific. During September 1942 arrives Espiritu Santo ahead of PT Boats. While waiting for Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 3 (MTBS 3) to arrive, joins a convoy to Tulagi towing a barge with 2,000 drums of fuel and 250 pound bombs. On September 19, 1942 at Noumea when PT Boats arrive aboard SS Bellatrix and helps tow them to Espiritu Santo where they are then towed by fast minesweepers to Tulagi. On October 22, 1942 arrives Tulagi Harbor to provide tender service for PT Boats for the next four months and also helps repair damaged warships and shore duties to build pipelines from water holes.

On January 13, 1943 redesignated as a Motor Torpedo Boat Tender (AGP-3).

PARTIAL HISTORY

Fate
On March 6, 1946 decommissioned. On September 4, 1946 transferred to the Maritime Commission for disposal. On December 16, 1946 sold to Balfour Gutrie and Co., Ltd. ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped.
