Submarine History
Built by Karasukojima Naval Armory as the 10th Type A Midget Submarine completed. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN).

Sinking History
On November 28, 1942 at 2:55am Japanese submarine I-16 launches HA-10 about 3,000 yards NE from Lunga Point on Guadalcanal. Aboard was commander Lt(jg) Hoka and crew member Inokuma. At 8:16am, this midget submarine penetrates a destroyer screen then fires one torpedo and damages USS Alchiba AK-23 while unloading aviation fuel and munitions and beaches to avoid sinking and burns for four days. This midget submarine fails to return and is declared missing.

Shipwreck
Likely, Type A Midget Submarine raised by USS Ortolan (ASR-5) off Guadalcanal displayed at the Submarine Force Museum is this submarine.

"Locally, this submarine has always been labeled as HA-8. Some sources identify the midget as the HA-8, others the HA-10 and still others the HA-30. It came to the SUBASE Groton as part of a country war bond effort in 1943-1944 and has remained in Groton ever since. It is one of four such Type A midgets on display in the world."
