Sub History Built by Kure Naval Arsenal at Kure. Laid down November 8, 1943 as I-400-class submarine Sentoku Type. On July 7, 1944 launched as as I-404 and remains moored in Kure Harbor. On June 4, 1945 construction was haulted at 95% and never fully completed. Wartime History On July 28, 1945 U.S. Navy (USN) carrier plane from Task Force 38 (TF 38) strike Kure, this submarine sustained heavy damage and later scuttled into Kure Harbor.
