Submarine History
Built by Dalzavod in Vladivostok. Laid down December 26, 1935 at Yard 202 as a Leninets-class submarine (L Class), Group 3 (including submarines L-13 to L-19). Launched May 25, 1938 as L-19. Commissioned November 4, 1939 in the in the Sovyetsky Voyenno-Morskoy Flot (Soviet Military Maritime Fleet). Assigned to the Pacific Fleet at Vladivostok.

Wartime History
On August 23, 1945 L-19 fired torpedoes at Tetsugo Maru that sank at roughly Lat 44.08N, Long 141.30E off Rumoi on Hokkaido.

Sinking History
On August 24, 1945 or August 25, 1945 believed to have sunk in La Perouse Strait due to unknown causes, possibly, collision with a sea mine. The entire crew of 53 went down with the submarine.

During July 2006, a Russian dive team “Iskra” was searching for L-19. At the request of Wahoo Project Group, they diverted from their normal routes to scan two sites. The first site was a freighter. The second was USS Wahoo SS-238. This submarine remains missing and has never been found.
