Background
The Yokosuka Kōkūtai (Yokosuka Kokutai, Yokosuka Ku) was a land based unit of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) established at Yokosuka Airfield in Japan.
Wartime History
The Yokosuka Kokutai was an evaluation and test unit for aircraft and tested captured enemy equipment including F6F-5 Hellcat 71441. By 1945, equiped with the N1K2 Shinden-Kai and A6M7 Model 62 Zeros to defend the home islands until the end of the Pacific War.
Tail Codes
ヨ-??? (three digits) in white on the tail. The backward 'ヨ' translates to "YO" for "Yokosuka".
