Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) No. 25 Squadron operated the SBD Dauntless in the South Pacific (SoPAC) during World War II.
Wartime History
On February 11, 1944 lost is SBD-4 Dauntless NZ5037 pilot F/O Alexander Moore (MIA) on a radio familiarization flight and crashed near Pallikulo on Espiritu Santo.
On April 17, 1944 eleven SBDs took off from Piva North Airfield (Piva Uncle) on Bougainville on a bombing mission against Lakunai Airfield near Rabaul. Lost is SBD-5 "Prune's Progrss"
NZ5050 pilot Pilot Officer Geoffrey H. Cray (MIA).
On May 10, 1944 SBDs took off from Piva North Airfield (Piva Uncle) on Bougainville on a bombing mission against Rabaul. Lost is SBD-5 Dauntless NZ5051 pilot
F/Lt Jack W. Edwards (MIA).
