Background
The 4th Photographic Group (Reconnaissance) part of the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). During 1943, redesignated the 4th Photographic Reconnaissance Group (4th PRG) and later the 4th Photographic Reconnaissance and Mapping Group (4th PRMG) assigned to the 13th Air Force (13th AF).
17th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron (17th PRS)
Also known as the 17th Photo Recon Squadron or 17th Photo Recon. Initially equipped with the F-4 Lightning, the photographic reconnaissance version of the P-38E Lightning, with cameras installed in the nose compartment instead of armament and later the F-5 Lightning until the end of the Pacific War.
38th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron (38th PRS)
On December 14, 1944 arrives at Hollandia and is attached to the 4th Photographic Reconnaissance Group (4th PRG).
20th Photographic Mapping Squadron (20th CMS)
Activated as part of the 4th Photographic Group (Reconnaissance), December 5, 1943 to 6th Photographic Reconnaissance Group.
