Prewar, 5th Interceptor Command was part of the 5th Air Force (5th AF) in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) in the Philippines. In May 1942, renamed 5th Fighter Command (V Fighter Command) in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA). Also abbreviated V FTR.
