Background
During World War II in the Pacific, Allied Technical Intelligence Unit (ATIU) was responsible for the study and survey of enemy aircraft and equipment for intelligence value. The unit operated in the South Pacific (SOPAC) and South West Pacific Area (SWPA) investigating crashed aircraft and wreckage and created reports about them.
