Background
On November 1, 1942 the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) renamed air groups with three digit identifiers. The 901 Kokutai (901 Air Group) was a maritime patrol and escort unit.
Wartime History
During February 1943 moves to the Indian Ocean area. In January 1945, operates from Toko on Formosa and Hong Kong. The 901 Ku supplied E13 Jakes to 936 Kokutai. Later, operates from Naha Airfield on Okinawa.
