On April 13, 1942 seven A-24s from the 3rd Bombardment Group escorted by eight P-40E Kittyhawks from No. 75 Squadron attack Lae.
13th Bombardment Squadron (13th BS)
On March 10, 1942 the 13th BS transfered from Brisbane to Charters Towers Airfield with A-20 Havocs. On April 6, 1942 the 13th BS took off on their first combat mission.
On May 21, 1944 the 13th BS movs to Hollandia Airfield with A-20 Havocs.
Bombardment Squadron (89th BS)
On September 1, 1942 the 89th BS transfers from Charters Towers Airfield to 3 Mile Drome (Kila) near Port Moresby in New Guinea.
90th Bombardment Squadron (90th BS)
On May 22, 1943 five B-25s attack Lae Airfield. Lost is B-25C 41-12491 pilot 1st Lt. Roy J. Moore (MIA) on a night reconnaissance mission against Japanese barge traffic off the north coast of New Guinea.
