Background
On April 22, 1942 the 88th Reconnaissance Squadron (88th RS) was redesignated 436th Bombardment Squadron (436th BS) in the 7th Bombardment Group (7th BG) in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF).
Postwar
On January 6, 1946 inactivated. On October 1, 1946 reactivated and redesignated 436th Bombardment Squadron (Very Heavy). On September 18, 1947 became part of the U.S. Air Force (USAF). On July 20, 1948 redesignated 436th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy).
