Treloar Technology Center

Vicars & Callan Streets, Mitchell, ATC

This facility contains the AWM's larger collection of aircraft and military treasures related to Australian military involvement in nearly a century of conflicts. Guided tours are provided by staff to small groups. Their collection is amazing and very large, and every part of the collection deserves a page worth of information. Fascinating relics, like a landing boat from the Gallipolli Landing, or the gun off the famous German raider SMS Emden. Also, a huge collection of guns and mortars that were taken as trophies after the war and given to Australian towns after the war in apperception for their contribution of men to the war effort - the more men, the large sized gun they received.

World War II Europe
Of interest is a V-2 Rocket & Launch Trailer. This mobile trailer is the only such example left in the world. Also, an Me-109G, the only airframe in the world left in its original war camouflage scheme. And Luftwaffe secret weapons, Me 262 affectionately know as "Black X" wk nr 500200 and Me 163. A T-34 tank, and several German guns and weapons, like a wheel mounted 20mm cannon.

World War II Pacific
Probably the most interesting relic is the other Type A Midget Submarine that attacked Sydney harbor and was captured. Of interest, this ship was battery driven, and it could not be recharged. Contrary to popular belief, these boats were not suicide craft, they were carefully constructed and they were to return to their mother submarine after completing their mission. The craft was the same type that attacked Pearl Harbor, and Diego Suarez. Other relics include a Japanese suicide speed boat.
