Bunker Interior
Ventilation System
Ingenious features of the survivability of this bunker are evident
once you step inside. Small Hole for ventilation lead up to fresh
air.
Spacious Underground Chambers
The middle of the bunker is enormous. The echo reveals that you have just
walked into a large space before your flashlight even can scan the walls. This
large area was divided into at least four large compartments, each with its own
subdivisions. Cool and breezy, one can just imagine officers busily working at
maps to coordinate the town's defense against an Allied attack.
Living
Quarters
Although the area is empty, there are remains
of metal hooks and supports for bunks or map tables. There is even a small alcove
for a Shinto Shrine. Until the 1994 eruption this interior served as small museum
that displayed photographs and artifacts related to the war history.
Undamaged
Interior
The tactical and quality construction
of this bunker is evident from the moment you walk inside. The war, and 60 years
of time, including a volcanic eruptions have left the interior of this bunker
undamaged. The staircases pictured to the left lead to two circular map room chambers
