Aircraft History Built by Bristol in the United Kingdom. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number T4930. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia. Wartime History During April 1942 assigned to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Beaufighter Mark Ic serial number A19-11. On April 20, 1942 assigned to 2 Air Depot (2 AD). On August 17, 1942 assigned to No. 30 Squadron with code L. The same day, off from Richmond Airfield piloted by Sgt M. Morgan with navigator Sgt F. Cassidy as one of twenty-four Beaufighters on a ferry flight to Bohle River Airfield near Townsville for operational training. On September 12, 1942 flown to Wards Drome (5 Mile) near Port Moresby. On October 1, 1942 the right engine was damaged by Japanese anti-aircraft fire over Sanananda but was able to return to Wards Drome (5 Mile) on one engine. Between October 5-15, 1943 repaired by 15 Repair Salvage Unit (15 RSU) then returned to the squadron. Between March 3, 1943 and March 4, 1943 during the Battle of the Bismark Sea flew missions piloted by F/O George Drury and navigator Sgt Dave Beasley against the Japanese convoy. During one mission near the Japanese convoy, this plane was attacked by a pair of Japanese fighters but escaped by diving to sea level and accelerating away. On March 22, 1943 during a mission, suffered wing damage. Drury was renown for returning from operations with palm fronds hanging from his aircraft. On March 28 - April 7 transfered to 15 Aircraft Repair Depot (15 ARD) for repair. On April 12, 1943 while parked at 5 Mile Drome (Ward) near Port Moresby damaged when a Japanese bomb bounced off the rear of the right wing before hitting the ground and exploding nearby. Afterwards, this aircraft was used for spare parts. Wreckage On May 30, 1943 transfered to 15 Aircraft Repair Depot (15 ARD) for conversion to components. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
