Aircraft History
Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 3822. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number AL890. At the factory, painted in RAF markings and camouflage. No known U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) serial number was allocated.

This Boston was one of twenty-two from the RAF production allocated to the Netherlands East Indies Air Force (NEIAF) and over painted with the markings of the Koninklijke Marine (Royal Netherlands Navy). Disassembled and shipped overseas bound for the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). After the fall of Java while still in transit, diverted to Australia.

Wartime History
During March 1942 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as DB-7B Boston Mark III serial number A28-1. On March 29, 1942 assigned to 1 Air Depot (1 AD) and was not reassembled until the end of the month.

On April 27, 1942 assigned to No. 22 Squadron code DU-Y. No known nickname or nose art. On August 2, 1942 to 1 Air Depot (1 AD). On August 10, 1942 returned to No. 22 Squadron. On October 12, 1942 to 5 Air Depot (5 AD) for engine changes. On October 19, 1942 to 3 Air Depot (3 AD). On November 20, 1942 returned to No. 22 Squadron.

On November 30, 1942 at night crashed on take off without injury to the crew. Afterwards, to 3 Air Depot (3 AD) for repairs. On December 6, 1942 to 15 Repair & Salvage Unit (15 RSU). On March 12, 1943 back to 3 Air Depot (3 AD). On April 22, 1944 returned to No. 22 Squadron.

On April 23, 1944 suffered another accident and was damaged. On June 9, 1944 to 13 Aircraft Repair Depot (13 ARD) for repairs. On June 17, 1944 returned to the No. 22 Squadron.

Mission History
On July 4, 1944 crashed at Kiriwina Airfield. On July 6, 1944 to 10 Repair & Salvage Unit (10 RSU) and converted to components.
