Pilot 2nd Lt. Leslie R. Arnold (KIA, BR) New Orleans, LA Crashed May 2, 1944 MACR none Aircraft History Built by Douglas in Tulsa, Oklahoma during September 1943 under contract AC-28716. Constructors Number 17360. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as A-24B-10-DT Banshee serial number 42-54521. Loaded as cargo and shipped to Oahu and reassembled at Hickam Field by the Hawaiian Air Depot (HAD). Wartime History Assigned to the 7th Air Force (7th AF), 318th Fighter Group (318th FG), 19th Fighter Squadron (19th FS). No known nickname, nose art or markings. Mission History On May 2, 1944 took off from Bellows Field piloted by 2nd Lt. Leslie R. Arnold and crashed on take off, killing the pilot and destroying the plane. Memorials Arnold was officially declared dead the day of the crash. He is buried at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) at section M site 1328. Relatives F3c Claude D.
