Aircraft History Built by Mitsubishi, estimated date of assembly April 1942. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as A6M2 Model 21 Zero manufacture Number 4698. This aircraft was assigned a Houkoku Gou (Navy Patriotic Presentation Number). Donated by an unknown donor. Assigned Houkoku Gou 500 (Patriotic Presentation Number 500) in black on both sides of the rear fuselage. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai (Air Group). This Zero operated from Lae Airfield. Wreckage This Zero was abandoned at Lae Airfield. On September 16, 1943 the wreckage was examined by Allied Technical Intelligence Unit (ATIU) that noted the manufacture number 4698 and Houkoku Gou 500. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
