Houkoku/Aikoku Patriotic Presentation Numbered Aircraft
Click For Enlargement.comDuring the Second Sino-Japanese War and during the Pacific War, Japanese companies, civilian volunteer groups and private donors funded the purchase of military equipment for the Navy and Army. To acknowledge their donation, each piece of equipment was assigned a numeric patriotic presentation number and painted with the donor's name. For the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) these were Houkoku Gou. For the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) these were Aikoku Gou.

Houkoku Gou (Navy Patriotic Presentation Number)
Aircraft purchased by donors for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) were assigned Houkoku Gou (Navy Patriotic Presentation Number). These numbers were assigned cardinally starting with number 1 and are documented to have reached at least 5887. They were assigned to many different types of military aircraft including floatplanes, fighters, dive bombers, torpedo bombers and medium bombers.

Aikoku Gou (Army Patriotic Presentation Number)
Aircraft purchased by donors for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) were assigned Aikoku Gou (Army Patriotic Presentation Number). These numbers were assigned cardinally starting with number 1.
