Aircraft History Built by Mitsubishi or Nakajima. At the factory, painted overall gray with a black cowling. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 0 / A6M Zero manufacture number unknown. This aircraft was either an A6M2 Model 21 or A6M3 Zero. This aircraft was assigned a Houkoku Gou (Navy Patriotic Presentation Number). Donated by a private donor. Assigned Houkoku Gou 1187 (Patriotic Presentation Number 1187) in black on both sides of the rear fuselage. Alternately, the number could be 1137 or 1167. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai (Air Group). No known tail code or markings. This Zero operated in the Solomon Islands. Mission History This Zero was shot down or crashed into a swampy area of New Georgia Island. Wreckage The wreckage of this Zero remains in situ. The cockpit section was destroyed in the crash.
