Allied personnel with A6M2 Zero 5349 wreckage at Darwin Airfield
The wreckage recovered from the crash site on Melville Island includes the rear fuselage and tail with BII-1 [BII-124] with a horizontal stripe above and the rear fuselage with a pair of vertical stripes. Both of the tail stabilizers are removed or missing. In the center is the cockpit canopy and in the foreground is the wing. Several personnel are standing nearby the man at the left kneeling is wearing a pith helmet another is holding the fuselage and a third wearing flight gear including a flight suit and helmet with goggles.
