Aircraft History
Built by Nakajima, estimated date of assembly October 1942.
Jim Landsdale adds:
"We call the transluscent interior color aodake or aotake, it will vary fom a bright blue to almost yellow-green. Heat will somtime affect the color. It is a a fairly rare number in that it has a low construction number of the Nakajima Reisen (No.351 in the series of Model 21's). It was originally painted, as it left the factory, in the Tsuchi-Iro color, a light tan or olive-gray all over the exterior which, would have bleached out ot a chalky white or blue-gray over time."
Wartime History
Abandoned on Ballale Airfield.
Justin Taylan adds:
"The wreckage of an Zero had its left nose gun cover still intact. The cover had 5351 clearly stenciled on the inside surface. It is unclear if this was the Manufacture number of this Zero, or swapped in as a replacement cover from another wreck as a second gun cover with 5355 was found near the same wreck."
