History Built by Mitsubishi during the middle of June 1943. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as A6M3 Model 22 Zero manufacture number 3478. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai (Air Group), likely 204 Kōkūtai (204 Air Group) possibly with tail code T2-1163. This Zero was abandoned at Vila Airfield on Kolombangara Island. Wreckage During late September 1943, captured by American forces occupying the area. During late 1943, surveyed by U.S. Army Technical Air Intelligence Unit (TAIU) that noted the manufacture number and described the aircraft as a "Zero Mark 2'.
