Wartime History Built by Mitsubishi. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as A6M3 Model 22 Zero manufacture number unknown. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Kokutai (Air Group). This Zero operated from Babo Airfield until damaged while parked. Afterwards, the wing and center section were abandoned in a bonehead area at the edge of the runway. Wreckage Remained at Babo Airfield 'in situ' until 1991. Salvaged by Bruce Fenstermaker, and cut into three pieces: center section and two wings and exported to the United States. During 1993-1994 sent to Russia. Restored during 1994-1997 and deskinned and discarded after the restoration of three reproduction A6M Zeros built in Russia: A6M3 3852 (Reproduction), A6M3 Zero 3858 (Reproduction) and A6M3 Zero 3869 (Reproduction). One wing was discarded (internal structure only) after the restoration and was purchased and is displayed at Planes of Fame Museum.
