On the left side of the nose was a scoreboard with bomb markings with white star above each bomb indicating missions flown and at least five airplane silhouettes indicating aerial victory claims by gunners. Wartime History On March 2, 1943 took off piloted by Lt. Archie Browning on a patrol mission. In the morning, the crew spotted a Japanese convoy bound for Lae. They reported the convoy as fourteen ship and loitered over them until B-17s from the 43rd BG arrived to bomb them at the start of the Battle of the Bismarck Sea.
