Lt. Colonel Marion D. Unruh Executive Officer (E. O.) of 5th Bombardment Group (5th BG) on Espiritu Santo
Later, Unruh Commanding Officer (C. O.) of the 5th Bombardment Group (5th BG) between August 1943–December 30, 1943. Unruh piloted B-24D "Pretty Prairie Special" 41-24186 lost on a bombing mission against Rabaul on December 30, 1943 and became a Prisoner Of War (POW) and survived until the end of the Pacific War.
