Aircraft History
Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Delivered to the U. S. Army. Assigned to the 307th Bombardment Group, 370th Bombardment Squadron. Nicknamed "Dumbo".

Mission History
Took off from Carney Field on a mission. Ditched off the south coast of Choiseul Island. The crew survived the ditching and proceeded to a small island nearby.

The next day, VP-24 PBY Catalina piloted by Lt. R. A. Melrose rescued the crew.

Jim Sawruk adds:
"One thing I did notice is that 'Hardin' is spelled 'Harden' on the rescue list while the squadron photo list has him as Hardin."

Thanks to Jim Sawruk and Ewan Stevenson for additional information.
