Pilot 1st Lt. Wilfred L. Grenfell (KIA, BR) McMinnville, OR Crashed November 11, 1943 Aircraft History Built by Consolidated at San Diego on July 9, 1943. Constructors Number 2319. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24D-150-CO Liberator serial number 42-41242. Modified on July 25, 1943 at Tucson/Tinker with a nose modification. On September 26, 1943 took off from Fairfield Airfield on a ferry flight via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. On October 2, 1943 arrives Garbutt Field at Townsville. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 380th Bombardment Group (380th BG) "The Flying Circus", 528th Bombardment Squadron (528th BS). No nose art or nickname. Mission History On November 11, 1943 took off from Fenton Airfield piloted by Lt. Wilfred Grenfell on a bombing mission against Ambon (Mission: FEN III-23).
