On July 28, 1945 Cartwright, Ryan, Looper, Atkinson, Ellison, Able and Long were aboard B-24J "Lonesome Lady" 44-40680 on a mission against Kure and bailed out and became Prisoners Of War (POW). Ryan, Looper, Atkinson, Ellison, were detained at the detained at the Chugoku Kempei-Tai Headquarters in Hiroshima and all died August 6, 1945 by the atomic bomb. Only Cartwright and Able survived captivity and were liberated at the end of the Pacific War.
