B-25C Mitchell 41-12470 warming up at 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby
Wartime caption: "Allied aircraft were again active over enemy territory yesterday - every time you read a communique like that, there has been a scene like this one, photographed at one of our forward bomber stations in New Guinea." Although this photograph is dated July 2, 1942 it was taken June 16, 1942.
At the center is B-25C 41-12470 with a nose .30 caliber machine gun pointed upwards, fuselage U.S. star and tail with 11240 [41-12470]. Behind is another B-25 and Allied personnel standing in a group. In the distance is another B-25 Mitchell and B-26 Marauder from 22nd Bombardment Group (22nd BG). On July 26, 1942 this plane B-25C 41-12470 piloted by
1st Lt. Ralph L. Schmidt was shot down by A6M2 Zeros over New Guinea.
