Constructors Number 98-21306. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25H-1 Mitchell serial number 43-4305. Ferried to Hickam Field. Wartime History Assigned to the 7th Air Force (7th AF), 41st Bombardment Group (41st BG). No known nickname, nose art or markings. Mission History On July 23, 1945 took off on a mission and crashed on Niʻihau Island. Three were killed in the crash, with only the radio operator surviving and was rescued. Recovery of Remains After the crash, the remains of the crew were recovered and transported to Oahu and the United States for permanent burial. Memorials The crew that died in the crash were all declared dead the day of the mission. Worrell is buried at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) at section A, grave 52. He also has a memorial marker at Fairview Cemetery in DeKalb, IL at NEM-8-4-37 Robinson is buried at Saint Marys Cemetery in Chase, KS. The third crew member killed in the crash has an unknown burial. Relatives A. S. Worrell (son Worrell) "My father was killed in the subject crash Jul 23, 1945 (only one survivor) 10 weeks after I was born on VE Day May 8, 1945. He is interred in Punchbowl Crater. Have never been to Hawaii, but am planning trip perhaps 2007 or 2008."
