Aircraft History
Built by North American Aviation (NAA). Constructors Number 87-8981. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25D-20 Mitchell serial number 41-30816. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia.

Wartime History
Assigned to the Netherlands East Indies Air Force (NEIAF) with serial number N5-161. Assigned to No.18 Squadron. Nicknamed "Mississippi Dream" in reference to the Dutch training in Mississippi during 1942 and the nose art of a seated figure painted in a white outline. This bomber was equipped with two .50 caliber machine gun packs on each side of the nose.

Edward Rogers adds:
"I know of no B-25C's that were transferred to the NEIAF after having flown with US units. I believe that all B-25C's used by the NEIAF were purchased new. Some were replacements for the original B-25's taken over by the 3rd Bombardment Group for the Royce Mission."

During January 1944, this B-25 was written off and abandoned at Drysdale Airfield.

Wreckage
The wreckage including the fuselage remained in situ at the airfield until at least 1982. Sometime afterwards, the surviving wreckage was cut up for scrap metal and removed.

In 2018, this B-25 was salvaged by "Outback Truckers" and transported to Reevers Warbirds.

On July 10, 2018 the salvage of this B-25 was documented on Outback Truckers (Season 6, Episode 10) with the description "Nick and Jo mount a delicate rescue operation to recover a World War 2 bomber from its outback grave".
