Pilot F/O Leonard Douglas Hall, 415788 (KIA / BR) Navigator F/O Ernest Edwin Turner, 415952 (KIA / BR) Crashed June 16, 1944 Aircraft History Built by Bristol. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number T5338. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History On June 27, 1943 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Beaufighter Mark VIc serial number A19-120 and reassembled as 1 Air Depot (1 AD). On May 29, 1943 took off on a ferry flight bound for Gurney Airfield for delivery to No. 30 Squadron and while landing, the undercarriage was damaged. Afterwards, repaired by 10 Repair Salvage Unit (10 RSU). On September 11, 1943 assigned to No. 30 Squadron with code LY-H. During June 1944, operated from Vivigani Airfield on Goodenough Island. Mission History On June 16, 1944 took off from Tadji Airfield on a mission against Muschu Island. Over the target, hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed. Wreckage Postwar, the remains of the crew were recovered. Memorials Both crew were officially declared dead the day of the mission. Both were buried at the Lae War Cemetery. Hall at DD. C. 10.
