Pilot F/O Richard Hamilton Wallace, 586 RAAF (survived) North Adelaide, SA Ditched January 12, 1942 Aircraft History Built by Brewster Aeronautical Corporation as model 339E. Constructors Number 270. Delivered to the Royal Air Force (RAF) as Buffalo Mark I serial number W8202. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Singapore. On December 24, 1941 assigned to Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) No. 453 Squadron and retained the British serial number. Mission History On January 12, 1942 took off piloted by F/O Richard Hamilton Wallace on a search mission. During the flight, Buffalo W8202 collided with this aircraft while carrying out a weaving maneuver. Damaged, this Buffalo ditched near Tengora on the Malay Peninsula. Pilot Wallace was injured but managed to swim ashore. Memorials Wallace later died on October 29, 1944. He is buried at Ambon War Cemetery at 19. B. 13.
