Built by Curtiss-Wright during 1944. Constructors Number 32713. Delivered to the U. S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-46D-5-CU Commando serial number 44-77317.
Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 2nd Combat Cargo Group, 5th Combat Cargo Squadron. No known nickname or nose art.
On September 30, 1945 took off from Finschhafen Airfield. Thirty minutes into the flight, suffered an engine failure. When attempting to return to the field, the second engine failed forcing this C-46 to ditch into the sea near shore.
Afterwards, all aboard were rescued by an amphibious DWUK and returned safely to shore.
