Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructor number 4711. On September 11, 1942 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47-DL Skytrain serial number 41-18586. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History On October 9, 1942 assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 374th Troop Carrier Group (374th TCG). Nicknamed "Shamrock". Australian call sign VH-CCR and later VH-CFK. During the middle of October 1942 began operating from 5 Mile Drome (Ward) near Port Moresby flying cargo and personnel in New Guinea. On December 28, 1942 photographed landing at Popondetta Airfield to transport Australian Army 2/4th Field Ambulance personnel back to Port Moresby. Later, returned to the United States. On November 15, 1945 transferred to RFC for sale. Postwar Purchased by Avianca, converted into a C-153 and regsitered as HK-153 operated as an airline in Colombia regsitered as HK-153. Later, converted to Hiper DC-3. Fate On Mar 11, 1965 crashed at Palonegro Airport near Bucaramanga in Columbia.
