Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 34220. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-45-DK Skytrain serial number 45-0957. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. During August 1945 assigned to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number A65-124. Call Sign VH-RGL. Postwar, assigned to No. 10 Squadron (General Reconnaissance) at Garbutt Field. On April 1, 1952 this Dakota suffered an accident at Finintigu Airfield damaged the tip of the nose and caused the main landing gear to bog down into the grass runway. Afterwards, repaired over the next three and a half months before departing on July 21, 1952 departed to Finintigu Airfield. Today This Dakota is displayed at the RAAF Association Western Australia Aviation Heritage Museum (WAAM) indoors as a static display.
