Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 32877. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-30-DK Skytrain serial number 44-76545. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History During April 1945, assigned to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number A65-84. Australian call sign VH-RFA and later VM-HJM. Assigned to 2 ATU then No. 34 Squadron then returned to 2 ATU. Post War This C-47 was stationed at Butterworth Airfield. Afterwards, operated from RAAF Richmond until 1973. Afterwards, converted into a DC-3. On August 11, 1975 this aircraft became the second of seven ex-RAAF C-47s donated by Australia to Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) as P2-002. During the late 1980s when all the DC-3s were phased out, this aircraft was retained for display and stored at Jackson Airport. During January 2002 it was transported to the Airways Hotel, across from Jackson Airport and installed on pylons. The interior was converted into the "Balus Bar" (Airplane Bar) / Dakota Lounge and displayed supported by struts next to the hotel in a flying position, opened in 2004. It was painted in Air Niugini markings for some time before being repainted all white with the Airways Hotel logo on the tail and wings.
