Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 14563. Manufacture Number 26008. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-5-DK Skytrain serial number 43-48747. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to New Zealand. Wartime History On October 10, 1944 delivered to the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number NZ3527. BOC by Unit 19 at Whenuapai Airfield. Assigned to No. 40 Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. Postwar On February 23, 1951 stricken off charge. On March 28, 1951 aquired by New Zealand National Airways Corporation (NZNAC) and registered in New Zealand as ZK-AYL. Converted to DC3-C at Palmerston North August 17, 1951. Converted to DC3-C Skyliner at Christchurch May 28, 1964. Nicknamed "Timaru". To Lao Airlines, Vientiane as XW-TDH on May 29, 1968. Sent to the United States with Somerset Area Vocational School, Somerset, Kentucky, and registered as N8056 during 1971-1975. Fate Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
